MUSICOS :
Who are the sidemen on this welcome record, taken from 1944 live Los Angeles broadcast? Carter listened to the tracks with care, sprawled on a leather lounge chair in the Dexter music romm recently.
"I can´t name the musicians for sure",he says. Some of the tunes arfe from the Trianon but I´m positive some are from the old wartime "Jubille" program".
His best guess is this personnel : Milt Fletcher,Sleepy Grider,Fatso Ford,Ed Davis,trumpets;Shorty Haughton,J.J. Johnson,Alto Moore,trombones;Porter Kilbert,Bumps Myers,Gene Porter,Willard Brown,reeds;Gerald Wiggins,piano;Jim Edwards,guitar;Charlie Drayton,bass,and Max Roach,drums.
"But" Carter declares,Barney Bigard obviously is the clarinetist on "Tea for Two" and Emmett Berry is the trumpet soloist on "Fish Fry".
He is also "90 per cent sure" thaty the pianist on "I Coiver the Waterfront" is Sonny White and Eddie Heywood plays piano on "Sleep" the ancient Fred Waring theme.
"But I have no idea who is playing solo guitar or tenor "Who is Sorry Now",he declares.
So be it.Everyone´s memory lags after 46 years.
